What are micro sessions?
Micro sessions are quick, 15 minute portrait sessions that happen on a set date once each quarter at Studio Soma. Each session has a theme (or 'aesthetic', if you will) with a beautiful set design. Every quarter we feature a new theme, to keep our work current and fresh. Themes are never repeated, so if you like this aesthetic, you need to book a session!
Micro sessions are one way that Studio Soma makes professional photography more accessible to a wider general audience, beyond the larger brands we work with.
Normally, a professional photoshoot custom tailored to a client would be anywhere from 2,000-3,600.00. With Micro sessions, we stack many sessions back to back for many clients, happening all on one day. This allows me to set up my lighting and backdrop just once, and offer professional photography for a fraction of the price.
TIMELESS
BLACK & WHITE
1st quarter micro session theme
Kicking off the year at Studio Soma, we are envisioning a classic, timeless, black and white mood board. Featuring high contrast, dark and rich tones, the portfolio feels like Annie Liebowitz in Vanity Fair, meets Richard Avedon.
These images should be printed LARGE and in charge on your walls, as heirloom art pieces that will last a lifetime.
This set features draped velvet for the family session weekend as well as the brand photography weekend- that feels simultaneously elevated, and yet deconstructed- as parts of the photography 'set' will be visible (lights, ladders, backdrop stands and clamps) to give it that effortless elegance look.
for the weekend dedicated to dancers- a simple white box on our 15ft cyclorama provides the simplicity for the dancers' artistry and lines to be the main feature.
This 1st quarter's theme of "timeless black and white" is a very Vanity Faire, Annie Leibowitz vibe. I love it so much, I photographed my own family in this set as my test subject, and I can see these images blown up large, in beautiful frames on our wall for posterity.
This is definitely a classic for beautiful wall art... and as such, I'm also offering 50% off all wall prints/canvases of your images.
But remember, this set will be retired after this round of mini sessions, so you wont see it again. If you like this classic portraiture aesthetic... now is the time.

Did I mention I was obsessed with this set? So much so, I photographed my own family, AND my own brand shots?
The versatility of this set means you can dress it up in formal wear, or dress it down with jeans, a crisp white T, and bare feet for an artist vibe.
No matter how you style this set, it is going to be classy, formal without being 'perfect' (re: the 'unfinished' set peaking out), and elevated. This set would comfortably fit about 8 people, so you can bring in your entire team to be photographed together, or book individual slots for individual headshots.
Product photos instead? I can see this with a beautiful black and white floral bouquet (ahem florists) or a gorgeous cake (ahem, bakers) or a ceramic sculpture (ahem artists!). You get the picture (pun intended).

Arrive a few minutes early on your shoot day. Micro sessions last just 15 minutes, so it is quick and easy, and I will guide you the whole time.

You will see every image we shot and select your favorite 2 images right away! You are always welcome to purchase more images if you'd like for 60.00 per image.

Is 15 minutes enough?
The most common question we get.
and the truth is... it depends.
Large groups (4+ people) need more time to pose for a beautifully balanced composition. If toddlers are involved, we need all the time we can spare! We may only come away with those 2 images included in your session.
If you'd like multiple combinations of people together (say, a full family photo. a photo of just the kids together, photos of just the girls, photos of just the boys, a portrait of each child individually) we'll likely need more than 1 session to complete that.
But, I will always shoot as *much as I possibly can* during your time, to give you as many options as possible. My goal is to make you say "how am I ever going to choose" at the end of your session.
Additional images are available for purchase at your session if you just can't narrow it down, for 60.00 per image

Brands: you can bring your work with you! ie: florists can bring their arrangements, artists can be photographed with their artwork, etc

Well behaved pets are welcome on leash! Photo studios (with our big lights on stands) aren't the most friendly for high-energy furry friends.

Need more than 1 session? Go for it! Sessions are first come first serve, so you are welcome to book as many as you need, back to back.

You will see ALL the photos that were taken during our session, and pick out your favorites which will be edited and delivered within a week.
Please don't book a brand shoot on a dance shoot day, or a dance shoot on a brand shoot day, etc. Our lighting is specifically set up for the type of session, so you will be super disappointed with the outcome!

While I dont put a limit on how many people can be included in a session, keep in mind we only have 15 minutes. If there are many people, we may only get time to do one big group pose. this set can comfortably hold about 8 people.
If you didn't snag a session in time, there will be something different next quarter! but PLEASE JOIN THE WAITLIST in case anyone needs to transfer their session due to illness or otherwise!

Can't make your session after you booked? Just like a concert, sessions are non-refundable, but you can transfer them to someone else! We usually have a waiting list of people hoping to snag one.
The rumors are true- you wont see this theme again. We keep our photography fresh and current, so this is the only time you will be able to be photographed in this theme (unless, of course, you book a custom shoot). so be ready when registration opens!

All sessions take place at the gorgeous Studio Soma, a 1,500 sq ft modern organic space with limewashed walls, aesthetic furniture, and floor to ceiling 14ft windows.
