What are micro sessions?
Micro sessions are quick, 15 minute portrait sessions that happen on a set date once each quarter at Studio Soma. Each session has a theme (or 'aesthetic', if you will) with a beautiful set design. Every quarter we feature a new theme, to keep our work current and fresh. Themes are never repeated, so if you like this aesthetic, you need to book a session!
Micro sessions are one way that Studio Soma makes professional photography more accessible to a wider general audience, beyond the larger brands we work with.
Normally, a professional photoshoot custom-tailored to a client would be anywhere from 2,000-3,600.00. With Micro sessions, we stack many sessions back to back for many clients, happening all on one day. This allows me to set up my lighting and backdrop just once, and offer professional photography for a fraction of the price.

3rD quarter micro session theme
Our theme this fall season is 'gathered'- with two (!!) weekends of micro sessions- one indoor and one outdoor. This set features an absolutely stunning foraged floral installation that brings the best of the natural fall tones indoors. Our outdoor session takes place on a beautiful wooden dock overlooking a secluded scenic pond in middleton for that fall lake-life vibe.

Which one is right for you?
Our indoor floral installation fits large groups (hello extended family!) as well as more intimate portrait sessions.
Indoor portrait sessions allow for perfectly controlled climate and lighting and we're never slapping mosquitos. We also never have to reschedule due to poor weather! These sessions are generally a little more formal and posed, neutral enough for brands and perfect for fall family photos.

Our outdoor dockside sessions happen in the morning or evening when the best, dreamiest, natural light occurs. Our rain date is the following week, same day same time, to ensure we have the best possible chance of great weather and lighting (please ensure you are available both dates!).
While there are many more variables (weather, lighting, bugs, wind, etc) Outdoor sessions can often feel more playful, relaxed, and natural. If you are a lake-life family, This may be a great fun option for you!

Arrive a few minutes early on your shoot day. Micro sessions last just 15 minutes, so it is quick and easy, and I will guide you the whole time.

You will see your gallery of images within a week, and download your two favorite images for free. You are always welcome to purchase more images if you'd like for 60.00 per image.

Is 15 minutes enough?
The most common question we get.
and the truth is... it depends.
Large groups (4+ people) need more time to pose for a beautifully balanced composition. If toddlers are involved, we need all the time we can spare! We may only come away with those 2 images included in your session.
If you'd like multiple combinations of people together (say, a full family photo. a photo of just the kids together, photos of just the girls, photos of just the boys, a portrait of each child individually) we'll likely need more than 1 session to complete that.
But, I will always shoot as *much as I possibly can* during your time, to give you as many options as possible. My goal is to make you say "how am I ever going to choose" at the end of your session.
Additional images are available for purchase at your session if you just can't narrow it down, for 60.00 per image

the answers to your most common questions
Brands: you can bring your work with you! ie: florists can bring their arrangements, artists can be photographed with their artwork, etc

Well behaved pets are welcome on leash! Photo studios (with our big lights on stands) aren't the most friendly for high-energy furry friends.

Need more than 1 session? Go for it! Sessions are first come first serve, so you are welcome to book as many as you need, back to back.

You will see ALL the photos that were taken during our session, and pick out your favorites which will be edited and delivered within a week.
Any type of portrait session is welcome during our micro sessions! family sessions, headshots, dance photography, brand photography... if its a portrait, it can be done!

While I dont put a limit on how many people can be included in a session, keep in mind we only have 15 minutes. If there are many people, we may only get time to do one big group pose.
If you didn't snag a session in time, there will be something different next quarter! but PLEASE JOIN THE WAITLIST in case anyone needs to transfer their session due to illness or otherwise!

Can't make your session after you booked? Just like a concert, sessions are non-refundable, but you can transfer them to someone else! We usually have a waiting list of people hoping to snag one.
The rumors are true- you wont see this theme again. We keep our photography fresh and current, so this is the only time you will be able to be photographed in this theme (unless, of course, you book a custom shoot). so be ready when registration opens!

All sessions take place at the gorgeous Studio Soma, a 1,500 sq ft modern organic space with limewashed walls, aesthetic furniture, and floor to ceiling 14ft windows.
