Soma......."Being a fan of Pilates for some three years I'm glad to have
made Soma my home for exercise.
I have
stayed in shape and feel renewed and invigorated after each class. Thalia
Thomas has such passion and has created such a family atmosphere, it's hard
not to feel good about yourself.. and above all she pushes you, you don't
ever just feel like your going through the motions.
Now
during my pregnancy, Soma has become even more important. The utmost care is
taken in making sure you push yourself...but just enough. I've done
everything from the mat classes to Soma sculpt up until four months (with
modifications). Thalia in a room full of people still making sure that you
get the most from your workout
I am
now doing Private classes on the reformer and hope to carry on til the end
and be back into doing all the other stuff I was doing before!
I have
been at the studio for a about 2 years and have seen people become
leaner, stronger, more sculpted and above all, more confident.
I
would wholly recommend Soma to anyone who wants to get in shape or who is in
shape and needs a change.. this studio is a gem in Hollywood and you need to
discover it."

"When I first arrived in la I checked out
various dance studios. Seven places later I came to the firm conclusion
that unless you are wearing full make up and an uber chic outfit with the
latest Nike sneakers you best not try to dance in la. I then found Soma.

answered the phone and suggested I came to one of her dance classes to try
it out. I had never tried Pilates and hate exercise but decided to give that
a go too. I have never looked back. Two years later I still look forward to
my classes every week. I have yet to
find anywhere else in the world that is as cozy, fun and inspiring as
Soma. My body has transformed. I now look forward to exercising. I have met

Every teacher is brilliant. The training is geared to the individual no
matter what you level of fitness or experience is. I would encourage
everyone to go. But I try not to talk about Soma too much as i don't want to

“I am a 26 year old male with a very
competitive athletic background. I played Baseball, Football, and Golf at a
very high level, and continued as a pitcher into college. I am now an actor
in the Broadway musical Wicked, where I perform 8, three hour shows a week,
that include dancing, singing, lifting, running, and jumping, all while
wearing costumes, sometimes in excess of 20 pounds, on a hard, steel stage.
Because of my history of lower back pain, and
the toll that Wicked began to put on my body, I began attending Thalia's
Pilates mat classes weekly. At first, my goal was to simply stabilize and
strengthen the core muscles that young athletes so often neglect in their
early training and conditioning. Within two months, Thalia's challenging yet
specific approach to her work with me, led to an absence of lower back pain,
an increase in stability, and a confidence about my personal strength. After

challenge myself to her Soma Sculpt class, and I'm glad I did.
In just 6 months with Soma Sculpt, my entire
body has changed. I weighed 189 pounds when I started working with Thalia,
and after three months of Soma Sculpt, I was down to 169. Soma sculpt takes
all of the core values of mat Pilates (control, stabilization, stretching,
lengthening) and combines them with a vigorous cardiovascular, strength
training hour, that leads to weight loss, and muscle tone...just what
everyone wants! I usually attend Soma Sculpt twice a week, combined with at
least one mat class. Everyone around me comments on the transformation of my
body, and people who have watched me are now flocking to her studio to reap
the same benefits I did. This will be my first summer in my new body, and I
can't wait to show it off at the beach!

I
just wanted to tell you how much I have appreciated what you have done for
me. I have struggled with my weight and self image my entire life, I
can remember going to my first weight watchers meeting when I was nine years
old and it’s been an up hill battle since then. I’ve tried every diet pill,
fast or pre-packaged meal plan that’s out there, all the while knowing that
a healthy diet and consistent exercise is what I needed. But until doing
this Pilates work, I haven’t been able to find an exercise routine that I
could stick with. I’ve lost inches and gotten stronger and my clothes fit
better. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much! I promise to
keep at it until I get the body I’ve always dreamed of having and I know I
can with what you’ve taught me!

In July of ’05, my back was
injured in an automobile accident. I lost a lot of mobility and flexibility
in my neck, shoulders, and lower back.I was sorely frustrated and feeling
very sorry for myself and then found SOMA.
Thalia patiently talked me
through the exercises and frequently adjusted the position of my body to
ensure that I got the most out of the given exercise and didn’t further
injure myself. I showed up again the following week and did what I could
again, which to my surprise was more than the last time. Around the third
or fourth time I showed up to class, I heard Thalia tell me to that it
was”…time to take the training wheels off. No more playing around.” It was
also around that time that I noticed that my lower back pain was gone, and I
hadn’t been to the chiropractor in a while.
I’ve been taking class with
Thalia at Soma for almost 4 months. I’ve noticed a direct correlation
between life in and out of the studio.
Pilates at Soma goes so much
deeper than the superficial aesthetic of having a hot body. I can say from
personal experience that it builds the person from the inside out. And
almost as an afterthought, the hot body sort of happens. I came to Soma
hoping to rid myself of a physical ailment, and I did. In its place is a
leaner and longer looking body with tighter buns and the makings of a pretty
incredible six pack.

I
really want to thank your for all your encouragement, for kicking butt every
single workout and for being so generous in offering free classes. I
realize what a MAJOR difference taking that extra 1-2 classes a week has
made You did it, Thalia…you made me believe that I could change when
three months ago, when I started, I didn’t even know how to . I was really
at the end of my rope. I just feel totally blessed and grateful,
because now after so many years of living with this weight, I can see the
end of the tunnel… I can see me waiting there, a ME I haven’t met yet
It really is true what they say, “when the student is ready the teacher will
appear”.
I
didn’t think when I moved to Hollywood that I would ever find another studio
that I could call ‘home’. I’ve tried many other places and after about six
months I gave up. Nothing seemed to fit for me. But now, I do have a
place. Thank you for SOMA, a place I can call home.

Isn't it crazy that I have been working out with you for so long?? Almost 9
years!! I seriously feel so much better everyday since I started coming back
to your classes. I always have seen the best results and looked my best when
I worked out with you. You really make it fun and exciting to exercise,
while still kicking our butts every time. I think you are such a fabulous
teacher and such a fun person, you definitely make it worth coming to class.
Honestly, I tell my friends about how fantastic your classes are everyday!

Our Cardio Boogie class on Mondays is definitely a highlight for me. I
